How to Handle an Aggressive Dog
Every dog differs to the degree at which it can tolerate being handled. Some dogs enjoy being cuddled, hugged, kissed etc. Other dogs, usually those that did not receive a great deal of physical contact as puppies, are uncomfortable when they receive too much bodily contact. As a result, they become nervous and agitated if someone persistently tries to hug them.
Dog Aggression can also result from handling a canine if he has had a prior bad experience while being groomed. Usually, nail-clipping and bathing are to blame. When clipping a dog’s nails, it is easy to make a mistake and cut the blood vessel located inside of the vein. This, of course, causes extreme pain for a dog. Now, every time he sees a pair of clippers, he will have a negative reaction.
Many dogs have a hard time being washed and, a lot of times, if an owner has a half-washed dog in a frenzy, he will forcibly hold the dog in order to complete his bath. Restraining the dog will only exacerbate the dog’s panicky state and, in turn, he will learn that he needs to avoid being washed at all costs.
So, everyone in the family, including yourself, must learn what triggers negative reactions in your dog and how to handle/treat him accordingly.
